The best time to start a business is when you are happy. And there is no better way to be happy than welcoming a new pet into your life.

Multiple studies have found that getting a pet can make you happier. A recent study surveyed 300 people who got a pet in the last year and found that they were generally more satisfied with their lives. All in all: the perfect time to start your business with a positive attitude and a loyal work companion.

The Animal Refuge Center is a no-kill, cageless animal shelter facility in Hardin and surrounding counties in Kentucky that acts as an adoption agency. Here, we bring you these helpful tips on bringing your new pet into your home business venture.

Your Dog

Dogs are great for keeping the office environment happy. they also provide therapeutic benefits for people who work in stressful environments. Which is great, but you’ll want to make sure they’re happy too.

There have been various studies that have shown that playing classical music to dogs can reduce negative behaviors associated with anxiety and stress. Classical music is also relaxing for us in our work environment, making it a win/win for you both. Or you can sign up to Dog TV’s official streaming service for 24-hour television; programming scientifically developed specifically for dogs.

You’ll want to let your dog out frequently for potty breaks and if you don’t have a fenced yard, just short walks every two to three hours should suffice. But almost all dogs will need at least a one-hour walk per day. If you make that walk first thing in the morning, you’ll tire them out and give you more time to concentrate on your work.

Your Cat

There are a lot of interactive toys you can buy for your pet. You know they love chasing those laser beams, but you can’t stop working to keep shining it for them. Not to worry, you can purchase one that will automatically bounce a laser light around the room’s floor for them to chase after. You can also choose from a number of robotic toys that will scoot across the floor for them to chase.

They’ll also need a window to look out of, and putting a chair or table in front of one for them to perch on will keep them happy. Or, you can buy a window-ledge seat specifically made just for them. Your cat will be happy if they have a high space to look out from, so investing in a cat tower and keeping it nearby your work desk can keep you both happy.

Your Business

It can be easy to get distracted when you’ve got a new pet, they’re just so much fun to play with. You may find making a schedule that includes specific times when you’ll interact with your pet can keep you focused on your tasks. Or on the flip side, they can also keep you from being so focused on work that you forget your new friend needs you.

Creating automatic systems that do a lot of your work for you can be a real timesaver. For instance, using an invoice generator. Getting paid is what keeps your business going, so ensuring nothing falls through the cracks is critical. Start with an invoice generator. By using a generator that allows you to download your invoice in the format you choose, you can share it with your clients and vendors. And you’ll also be able to add your own text and logo to completely personalize it, too.

Structuring your business as an LLC saves you time on paperwork while possibly also saving you in taxes. It has the added benefit of letting you separate your personal assets from those of your business. It’s something you can do yourself online, but since rules can vary from state to state, check to make sure you’re meeting all the requirements for your home state.

Having a pet to keep you company while you begin your new venture can be one of the best business decisions you’ll make. They can make sure you get out of the chair and move around, which is good for your physical health, and keep you company, which is good for your mental health.

Work smart by automating what you can, like creating your own invoices and structuring your business so that you cut down on paperwork, and you and your new office mate will be off to a great start!
