Giving Back to Animals: How to Help Out Today

[Editor’s Note: This is the first in a series of informational articles being presented on our website to assist the community in addressing our current Community Cats problem, as well as creating real and viable resources for animal rescuers everywhere. Enjoy.]

It can be heartbreaking to think about animals in need. The number of abandoned and neglected pets seems to be rising every day, which can lead to a feeling of helplessness. At Animal Refuge Center, we’re all about giving back to make actual change happen. Here’s how:

Raising Awareness

One of the best ways you can give back is to raise awareness about various animal causes. Here are a few simple ways to give back:

  • Report cruelty: If you witness animal cruelty, abuse, or neglect, report it to prevent further mistreatment of animals.
  • Write to your local authorities: You can demand stricter laws for the protection of animals by writing to your local authorities.
  • Social media awareness: If you have a following, this is a great way to advocate for animal causes, charities, fundraising efforts, and more.

Giving Time

If you enjoy spending time with animals and have the time to give, here are a few options you can leverage:

  • Volunteer: Shelters urgently need people working on the ground. Check out sites like GoEco and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for finding volunteering opportunities near you.
  • Adopt: The best way to combat pet homelessness is to open up your home to an animal in need – Petfinder is a great resource you can use to find your future furry friend.
  • Foster: If you’re not ready to commit to caring for a pet full-time, you can provide a loving and healthy temporary environment for a pet in need.

Keep the Momentum Going

Once you’ve done your part, it’s not over yet! Here’s how you can keep the animal advocacy momentum going:

  • Start a nonprofit: This is the ultimate way to give back in a meaningful way.
  • Marketing: Be sure to have a consistent strategy when it comes to marketing your cause or nonprofit. For example, a logo maker that’s easy to use can help craft a professional look.
  • Fundraising: What’s better than one person donating? Many people donating! Fundraising is one of the most effective ways to give back.

Taking care of animals and doing your part can be an incredibly fulfilling and rewarding experience. If you’ve been wanting to plugin but didn’t know how this is your sign to start giving back today!
