Isaac is a handsome young tabby male, who was found as a stray in a Radcliff neighborhood. Isaac was trapped and brought to ARC with his collar wedged in his right armpit. Apparently at one point someone had cared for Isaac, but unfortunately the collar they put on him was not a breakaway collar and when he attempted to remove the collar it got stuck around his armpit. He was in this state for some time and when we were able to remove the collar, Isaac was left with a stinky wound that thankfully healed up rather quickly. Isaac was so thankful to be out of pain and he instantly warmed up to us. This is a very affectionate cat, who likes to hug and be held and gets along great with other kitties. Currently he is in our kitten room at ARC where he has taken on the role of big brother to the kittens. Recently Isaac was at Feeders Supply in Elizabethtown where he got to meet Santa Claus and tell him what he wanted for Christmas. We can only assume he asked for a family and a forever home. Bentley came to ARC a couple of months ago from a cat colony in Vine Grove. This handsome young man has been so fun to get to know. Bentley is very vocal and not shy about letting you know when he wants your attention. He likes to sit in laps and when he is being pet, he drools a little. It's so cute! Jewel is a perky, pretty, and petite Tortie, who was rescued from a hoarding situation. She is very silly and real talkative. Hello, my name is Alexander and I'm a FIV (Feline Aids) positive kitty. This means finding a home for me is a little tougher than for most. I need to be an only cat, unless you are planning to, or already have other FIV positive cats. Cyclone, as her name may imply, is a bit of a wild child. This young Tabby is never very still and getting good pictures of her isn't always easy. She's the sister of Katrina, a solid gray kitty, who was recently featured as Cat of the Week. Cyclone loves attention and is very affectionate, but may play a little too rough for small children, although she is learning to be gentle. Cheers is a very affectionate, 5-year-old male kitty. He was an outside cat until someone shot him a year ago. The surgery to save his life cost over a thousand dollars. Cheers had to have his front leg and shoulder amputated and after the surgery he could no longer live outside and became an indoor cat., He uses his litter box and has no behavioral issues. It would be easy to confuse Asia with Jackie, another tiny tuxedo cat here at ARC, but Asia has a personality that is uniquely her own. Asia came to us from another shelter in Kentucky and it took her a little while to adjust to her new surroundings. Not many cats are used to sharing a home with 80 to 100 free roaming cats, not counting the kitties at our rescue that live in rooms and it took Asia a little while to build up her confidence and get used to her new surroundings. Asia has found that she really likes to go outside and she enjoys playing in the yard with our goats and pot-belly pigs. Asia is the type of kitty to sit in your lap and smooch your face, but she doesn't like being picked up. For Asia to relax she has to feel like she is always in control. Gidget was a pregnant stray, who was found near a volunteer's home a couple of summers ago and was taken into foster care, before eventually arriving at our rescue. This 3 year old gave birth to 3 awesome little ones, all of whom have found wonderful forever homes, but she has not been so lucky in finding herself a home. Gidget is such a sweet heart and has recently found a new kitty friend in Gingersnap. This has really worked out well for the both of them, as they are each becoming more social with other kitties and humans alike. 2 summers ago, a beautiful, one year old, black kitty, named Josie came to live at ARC along with her 4 nursing baby kittens. They were rescues that we took in from Hardin County Animal Shelter and by years end all 4 of her sweet, precious babies had found wonderful forever homes. Josie couldn't wait to get her independence back after doing a fantastic job with her children and when it came time for her to join the general population that's exactly what she did. Josie is a free spirit that goes about her day until she wants some attention and when she does, you won't find a sweeter kitty than her. Josie likes to roll over on her back exposing her belly and when you rub her belly, she grabs your hand with her paws and sometimes suck on your finger for a few seconds or maybe just gives you a tiny love bite. Josie can be quite the talker when she wants your attention and she will be the type to greet you at the door and ask you how your day was. Josie may very well turn into a lap-kitty when she finds her forever home. Unfortunately, she doesn't really like other cats, so she is probably best suited to a home where she is the only pet. Handsome Man is a large, long-haired, 8-year-old, solid white male who is a real sweet-heart! This majestic boy requires a lot of grooming, but he loves being brushed and it's a fun way to bond with him. He loves sitting in laps and will happily purr for you all day long. It's safe to say it doesn't take much to please him. Handsome Man is very playful and on occasion he will follow us around and try to help us out with our work. Lori is about 5 years old and at one time there was no doubt, she was the most misunderstood cat at ARC. Sometimes she would act like she didn't like us, or want any attention, but when we weren't looking, Lori would peek around the corner to see if we wanted to play a game of tag with her. Other times the mere mention of her name would send Lori away grumbling, but when you caught up to her and called her bluff, she'd just lay down, roll over and expose her belly, wanting to be pet and proving that she's not so bad. When Lori came to us, she was very thin and had skin issues and never knew kindness. She had to be a tough girl out on the streets to survive, so if you get too "kissy" with her, she feels like you're ruining her reputation, but that's okay because we know the truth. Lori enjoys the other cats and dogs at the shelter and has turned into our greeter. This means you may not have to look very hard to find her and if you leave your car door open or window down, you may find this little sweetie ready for a car ride. Pepper is a large solid black senior female, who has spent her entire life here at the Animal Refuge Center. In her younger days she was a little shy. These days you'd never know it, as Pepper is a vocal greeter and is quick to make new friends. While she does have the nickname "Peppa Pig" she is not at all embarrassed by her appearance and Pepper is very active. Francis is a very handsome, 4 year old tabby who's FIV (Feline Aids) positive. This means that he needs to be your only cat unless you are planning to, or already have other FIV positive cats. FIV can't be passed on to dogs, but Francis has never really been around them so we aren't sure how he'd take to them. Francis is usually the greeter in our FIV Room, but he's fairly quiet and you may not always notice him subtly trying to get your attention. Don't let his calm nature fool you though, as Francis is the most social kitty in the room and will be happiest in a home with another cat. Rico is a handsome 8 year old solid white male, with an awesome personality to match his looks. Early in the morning Rico can be found at the very top of a large cat tree in the living room. Sometimes it's hard to even see that there's a cat up there, but he'll slowly wake up and lift his head and see what everyone is up to. If his buddy Chester is around, then it's time for him to get down and rub and usually they will proceed to find the nearest human and demand attention. If it's laundry time, well laundry time is just the best and Rico will descend from his high perch and "help" with that chore. Rico has made many new friends that way. Rico can be a little shy when he first meets someone, but he's not a shy cat and it won't take him long to decide he likes you. Periwinkle is a very quiet, unassuming, modest gal, but she is one of the kitty leaders here at the Animal Refuge Center. She leads by example, because she gets along well with the cats and dogs and never is involved in any drama. She doesn't have a dominate personality and I think what makes her queen among the shy cats, is just the love and compassion she shows them. Recently Periwinkle has been coming out of her shell more and more and hopefully this is a sign that her forever home is just around the corner. Most of the time Periwinkle can be found in "her room" and she always looks so surprised when she gets her human time. Jackie is a tiny, but sassy, middle-aged, black and white beauty, who arrived at the shelter a couple of years ago with her two tabby kittens, Goose and Maverick. Both of her kittens have long since been adopted into their forever homes, but for Jackie the search goes on. Sissy is one awesome 4 year old kitty, who loves dogs even more than other cats! Sissy likes when we have puppies and she sees it as her duty to play with puppies and keep them in line. Dixie is an absolutely gorgeous and very sweet 4-year-old calico, who was rescued as a stray from the streets of Vine Grove over 2 years ago. My name is Charlie, I am a 5 year old female tabby cat. I am here to tell you a little bit about me and my life. I make my home at the Animal Refuge Center in Vine Grove. I get really excited when I see my two legged servants come in every morning. Yeah, okay there are other cats here too, but they are MY two legged servants. I have one special human that I have trained. She brushes me every day she comes in, gives me a couple treats, and even sneaks me a little morsel of wet food on occasion. You could say I've got her wrapped around my fingers (ya know...if I had any). She likes to call herself my "sponsor". If it means I get extra attention I'm all for it! I really love lounging in the bay window soaking up some sun, but I like to play sometimes. On a couple occasions I've seen this weird red dot. Daniella is a wonderfully silly and very pretty, 4 years old Tabby/Tortoiseshell, with an equally fantastic personality! She really loves dogs, but also gets along great with cats too. Panda is a large, handsome, medium haired, tuxedo cat. He hangs out at the shelter in the backroom with the shyer cats even though he's not really that shy. Oreo is a senior black and white female at the Animal Refuge Center. Often she is one of the first cats to greet the workers when they arrive in the morning and when the work day is over she is ready to follow them home. Oreo sees herself as a very independent cat and doesn't want to be picked up and she may never be a lap cat, but she is very sweet. Oreo used to be a feral and at times she shows her former street self, because she doesn't really like other cats. She doesn't fight with them, she just prefers they leave her alone. Oreo would love a home where she is the only cat, but she can deal with other cats. Leo is a talkative, 6 year old, black kitty, who has been at the Animal Refuge Center for over 5 years now. Ernie is a 6-year-old black & white, tuxedo male. He is a very shy boy, but when he's around Skyler he's not as much of a scaredy-cat. Darby is an 8 year old solid black male. He is a rather shy cat, in fact he's much shyer than his sister Sheeley. He loves to play with the toys and have a good time. Darby can be quite vocal when it's treat time or when he is just looking for one. If he's in the mood you may be able to pet him. If not Darby can often be seen sticking his tongue out. Cassie is a beautiful 4 year old, solid gray and she came from a litter of 6, all solid gray kittens, that were very much feral when they arrived at the shelter. Paula and Chase were able to find homes and currently Cassie is the only remaining family member, who is really outgoing and she would very much like to find her forever home. Carlos is a 4 year old smoke gray and he comes from a litter of six, who were all smoke gray and everyone of them were feral. At one point Carlos was the shiest one, but these days he's a real sweetheart who wants loving all the time as long as there is quiet and people remain calm. It may take Carlos a moment to warm up to strangers, but once he does watch out, he's very affectionate and will make a wonderful best friend for someone. Gwen is a beautiful 6 year old tabby, who can be very playful when the mood hits her and is very affectionate. She never seems to get her fill of attention and really loves people. Dottie is a 11 year old grey Tortoiseshell, who's Feline Leukemia positive and has been at the Animal Refuge Center her entire life. She came to us from the Gatlinburg, TN area after friends of ARC took her out of the local shelter. Ronaldo is a large eight year old, tabby and white, who stands out from the crowd by doing something none of the other cats at the shelter do and that's to eat his dry food with both elbows resting on the bowl. Homer will be 9 years old on the 21st of April, though he has always looked like a little old man, slowly he is becoming one. A couple years ago Homer had to have his teeth pulled and now wet food is a large part of his daily diet.
