This little girl came to ARC after she was found as a stray kitten back in September. The day she came to ARC, we had to rush her to the vet because she was in terrible shape. The vet confirmed she was in very critical condition and would need intensive care to survive, and even that was not a guarantee. She was estimated to be about 5 weeks old, but only weighed 10 ounces, she was severely emaciated, anemic from fleas, dehydrated, suffering from an upper respiratory infection, and sadly the least of her worries, a ruptured cornea. Her body was shutting down and we needed to act fast!
Into a foster home she went, where she got around-the-clock care. Within just a couple of days, she showed much improvement! She was eating well, her infection was clearing up, and with regular cleaning and medication, her bad eye was not bothering her as much. She even started to play!
It appeared she was recovering nicely, so it was time to give this little girl a name! We knew she was a fighter, so she needed a name that reflected that… Meet Laila! She is named after Laila Ali, professional boxing champion, and daughter of Muhammad Ali! Well, Laila took the name with gusto and now she is THRIVING! She is growing fast and is scheduled for spay this Monday! Her eye is looking better. Her foster mom still has to keep it clean and lubricated, but it doesn’t seem to bother her. She is living with two other foster kittens and loves to play, eat and snuggle!
We are still watching her eye to see if she might need it removed, but so far, we are very happy with her progress! Check out her boxing video below! We think the human Laila Ali would be proud!
