Hi everybody, my name is Pumbaa! I am a neutered, male potbellied pig. Don’t you think my spots are adorable? I want to share with you my story of how I came to be at this amazing place called the Animal Refuge Center.
I was roaming around in Elizabethtown out in the fields, when a concerned citizen called Elizabethtown Animal Control in Hardin County. She was worried that I had lost my way and would get hurt if I was left out on my own, so she asked them if they would come rescue me. She was also worried about where I would go, if I wasn?t claimed by my owner, so she did some research and found the Animal Refuge Center.
She saw that they had livestock and called them and let them know where I was and that I needed a place to call home. The nice workers at ARC contacted the animal shelter and told them how they were wanting a piggy friend for their female potbellied pig, Zoey. They said that they had lots of space for me to wander and other animals to befriend. After waiting several days to be claimed, no one came for me, so the staffs of both ARC and Animal Control worked together to bring me to my new home.
I will never forget that day. Two of the workers from ARC came to the animal shelter to pick me up. I was then loaded into a crate and placed in the back of a vehicle. When I saw a bowl of piggy food in my crate, I knew these people rocked! I enjoyed my car ride to ARC and when we got to the facility, I was let out into the yard.
I got to meet Lewis, Cagney, Lacey, and Agnus and they are some pretty cool goats. It wouldn’t be long before I was running around with them playing tag. I also was introduced to a couple of geese named, Lefty and Lucky.
It was a few days later when I got to meet Zoey. I think she was a little jealous at first, something about wanting to be the only pig, but now we are friends.
I’ve been at the Animal Refuge Center for about a year now and it has been the best year of my life! I’m looking forward to many happy years with all my friends and I know that unlike the majority of cats and dogs here, I will not be adopted out. Some of the staff thinks I may have been someones pet before, because I really love belly rubs and have no fear of humans.
