Lefty the Canadian Goose and her pal Lucky are rescues from Woodland Wildlife, rescued after its founder, Monika Wilcox, passed away suddenly in July 2014. We were begged, “If you take any of the geese, you have to take all six of them. They are all mated pairs! They can’t be separated.”
Volunteers Pam Harrison and Don Chafee spent a good half hour wrangling the geese and putting them into carriers. They were later released into the livestock area at ARC, where four of the geese promptly flew away.
Three of the geese do return to ARC periodically throughout the year to visit with Lefty and Lucky. 🙂
These are typical Canadian geese, free spirits, perky and with a lot of sass. Lefty and Lucky both have broken wings. Lefty’s left wing is quite severely broken, and neither goose will ever fly again, but they are content to make their home at ARC. They have plenty of room to roam, honk at the dogs and hiss at the cats, as well as nip thru the fence at any visitors who may get too close. As ornery as they are, they hold a special place in our hearts. If you love a sassy free spirit, please consider sponsoring Lefty or Lucky, and keep them grainfed throughout their Golden Years.
The success of the Animal Refuge Center’s Sponsor A Pet Program has stood the test of time, and is more important to our work now than ever before. Maybe you don’t have room to adopt another pet at this time. Some of these pets may never, ever find their Forever Home, and the Animal Refuge Center will be the only home they ever have. A lot of these pets have waited awhile, and pets who were previously thought unadoptable have found their home with a stroke of luck. With your Sponsorship, you can help keep a homeless pet safe, warm, fed and loved until they do.
